State information

Kentucky

A high-level overview of immigration enforcement activity, school protection policies, and resources for families and educators in Kentucky.

Overview

State context

Kentucky has no state law protecting schools from immigration enforcement. Louisville has the largest immigrant community in the state and has taken a more welcoming posture at the local level. The state government has generally aligned with federal enforcement priorities.

ICE activity

ICE is active in Kentucky, particularly in Louisville, Lexington, and the Bowling Green area, which has a significant immigrant manufacturing workforce.

School policies

No statewide school protection policy. Jefferson County Public Schools (Louisville) has worked to maintain welcoming school environments and has some informal guidance for staff, but no formal warrant-requirement policy is in place.

Notes for advocates

Kentucky has a relatively new but growing immigrant community, with significant populations from Latin America, Southeast Asia, and East Africa concentrated in Louisville and Lexington. Bowling Green has a large refugee resettlement community. Advocates focus primarily on legal services and school support.
